Ingredients
  

  • 4 crusty rolls Semmeln or similar bread
  • 12-16 slices of Matjes herring
  • 1 small onion thinly sliced
  • 1 small cucumber thinly sliced
  • Fresh dill chopped
  • Optional: 2 tbsp sour cream or horseradish sauce

Instructions
 

  • Select Bread: Start with a crusty roll or whole grain bun.
  • Add Matjes Herring: Spread 2-3 pieces of Matjes herring on the bottom half of the bread.
  • Top with Toppings: Layer with thinly sliced onions, cucumbers, and fresh dill.
  • Add Condiments: Optionally, add a dollop of sour cream or horseradish sauce.
  • Assemble and Serve: Place the top half of the roll, cut in half, and serve immediately.
