Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 14 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • ¼ cup tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons sugar or to taste
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

Heat the Olive Oil:

  • In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat.

Sauté the Onion and Garlic:

  • Add chopped onion and garlic to the pan. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until softened and fragrant.

Add the Tomatoes:

  • Stir in the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste, cooking for another 5 minutes to allow the flavors to blend.

Season the Sauce:

  • Add sugar, balsamic vinegar, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Stir well and bring to a simmer.

Simmer and Adjust Flavors:

  • Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust sweetness or seasoning to taste, adding more sugar if you prefer a sweeter sauce.

Serve:

  • Once the sauce has thickened to your liking, remove from heat. Use immediately on your pizza or store in an airtight container for later use.
