Lemon Syrup Base
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup filtered cold water for syrup
Lemon Flavor
- 1 ½ cups freshly squeezed lemon juice about 8 medium lemons
Mixing the Lemonade
- 7 cups cold filtered water
Prepare the simple syrup by placing 1 cup water and 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat and stir often until the sugar fully dissolves and the liquid becomes clear. Bring to a light simmer, then remove from heat.
Allow the syrup to cool to room temperature. Once cooled, pour it into a mason jar, cover, and place it in the refrigerator until chilled.
Cut the lemons in half and use a citrus juicer to squeeze them until you collect 1 1/2 cups of fresh lemon juice. Strain out seeds if needed and store the juice in the refrigerator until ready to use.
Pour 7 cups of cold water into a large pitcher. Add the chilled lemon juice and 1 1/2 cups of the prepared sugar syrup.
Stir well until everything is evenly combined. Taste the lemonade and adjust sweetness by adding a little more syrup or lemon juice if desired.
Fill serving glasses with ice and pour the lemonade over the ice. Serve immediately for a bright and refreshing drink.
For deeper citrus flavor, add a small amount of lemon zest to the sugar and water while making the syrup, then strain before using. You can also freeze extra lemon juice in ice cube trays to keep the lemonade cold without diluting the flavor. For variations, mix in fruit purees such as strawberry or peach, add fresh herbs like mint, or replace some of the water with sparkling water for a bubbly version.
