Base
- 1 tablespoon olive oil for sautéing
- 1 cup onion finely chopped
- 1 piece green bell pepper diced
- 2 pounds lean ground beef
- 3 teaspoons garlic freshly minced
Sauce
- 30 oz tomato sauce 2 cans
- 30 oz petite diced tomatoes 2 cans
- 3 cups beef broth
- 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 teaspoons seasoned salt
- 2 tablespoons Italian seasoning
- 3 pieces bay leaves
Pasta and Finish
- 2 cups macaroni noodles uncooked
- 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add chopped onion, bell pepper, and ground beef. Cook until beef is browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess fat.
Add minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
Stir in tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt, Italian seasoning, and bay leaves.
Add uncooked macaroni and stir to combine. Bring the mixture to a boil.
Reduce heat to a simmer and cook uncovered for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is tender.
Remove bay leaves and discard.
Add shredded cheddar cheese and stir until melted and creamy.
Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve hot.
For extra creaminess, stir in one cup of sour cream at the end. You can substitute ground turkey for a lighter option. Add vegetables like corn or peas for more nutrition. If freezing, store the sauce separately and cook fresh pasta later for best texture.
