Ingredients
  

  • 1 can 15 oz pitted cherries (in juice or light syrup)
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
  • cup granulated sugar adjust to taste
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Zest of 1 orange optional, for extra flavor

Instructions
 

Prepare the Ingredients:

  • Drain the cherries if using juice or light syrup. Set aside. Rinse the cranberries and pat them dry.

Simmer the Fruit:

  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the cranberries, sugar, and 1/4 cup water (or reserved cherry juice). Stir occasionally until the cranberries start to burst, about 5 minutes.

Add the Cherries:

  • Reduce the heat to low. Stir in the cherries, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract. Cook for another 5–7 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly.

Optional Flavor Boost:

  • Add orange zest for a citrusy kick and stir well. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Serve and Enjoy:

  • Serve warm or chilled as a topping for desserts, pancakes, or even roasted meats. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
